Keningau: Former Tenom Member of Parliament, Datuk Rizalman Abdullah, suggested that the Sabah Barisan Nasional (BN) holds a special meeting to discuss the selection of candidate for Pensiangan in the event of a by-election.

Speaking in a press conference here, Saturday, he said although the quota has been given to Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS), any candidate from the party could not guarantee a victory for the BN, hence, the higher-ups should listen to the people's voice.

“I am not against any candidate or quota but I want to see a victory for the candidate vying for the Pensiangan seat," he said in front of about 200 community leaders, including Umno leaders, from Pensiangan.

Although he would have no problem with the quota going to a candidate from PBRS, he, however, claimed that during his recent visit to Pensiangan about 70 per cent of the voters were still behind the BN but unwilling to vote for a candidate who is not picked truthfully and without the backing of the rakyat.

Towards this end, Rizalman suggested that Pensiangan Umno Chief, Datuk Abdul Ghani Mohd Yassin, be given a shot at the candidacy or his deputy Ahwar Rasam.

"I make this suggestion not because I want the candidacy but I really hope the BN candidate for Pensiangan will achieve a landslide victory should the by-election be held.

"That is why I dare to speak up and ask the State BN leadership to hold the meeting to decide the candidacy."

He opined that a candidate from Parti Bersatu Rakyat is also worth considering.

Rizalman pointed out that power-sharing among the BN component parties would help alleviate problems involving electricity, health care, schools and road conditions, among others, in Pensiangan, which also comprises the Nabawan and Sook state seats held by Datuk Bobbey Suan (Upko) and Datuk Ellron Alfred Angin (PBRS), respectively.
